Alright, new blogskin here. Credit goes to the original maker of this skin, which is slightly edited by me. Featuring one of my fav quotes. There will always be hope, no matter what. I feel like discussing a few issues today. First, looking back, yet again. Remember a few blog entries back in which I was forced to retrench the people under me? I sincerely hope that none of you out there will ever have to face the kind of situation I did. I remember having trouble sleeping when the decision was made to retrench staff came. Literally, the fate of my people were in my hands. My choices on who to let go was not based on merit. I chose them because they were young and unmarried, hence the impact of losing a job would not be so bad for them. That was the most I could do. One guy had just gotten married. I could not choose him. Another's wife just gave birth to his second kid. I did not choose him. Although there was no other choice but to let them go, no matter what it was still me, myself and I who selected them. It was one of the toughest decisions I made in my life. Even now it still kind of affects me. I just can't help but feel bad. It was a tough week. The next feel days I saw my colleagues getting retrenched. Real bad for morale. I share this today as perhaps a form of release. Pastor Chua said, “我们要吸引怎样的人,我们就要成为怎样的人。” If a person is not open, how will people open up to him? I am way more expressive with words than speech, so this is simply my way of 'opening up'. Things have to change. The second issue I would like to talk about today is individualism. This was actually derived from names. Notice nowadays names are becoming stranger and stranger? Take a look at the 'I laugh at your stupid name' group on facebook and you shall see. Some of the names are just simply over the top. My conclusion is that people might be trying too hard to be unique. A name could be seen as a form of identity. Hence, a unique name gives a unique identity. People want to be seen as 'unique' in the eyes of other people. However, it is really justifiable? As with many problems, a good solution is the Bible. KJV - Genesis 1:27 says, 'So God created man in his own image.' KJV - Luke 12:7 says, 'But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.' Note the two verses. One is 1:27, the other is 12:7. Striking, yes? All of us are already unique by birth. God created man with a purpose. He did not create robots. There is no two people in the world who are exactly the same. We are already unique, because God has created us so. We do not need to give ourselves fancy names to announce that we are unique; we already are unique in our own way. Comments? |
